About this archive

Make the story easier to follow.

A source-led archive about hospital ownership, financing, and access to care.

Why this archive exists

Important information can be scattered across filings, statements, recordings, and reporting. Who Owns Care brings those materials together so readers can follow events and inspect the evidence. Vista is the starting point, with room to connect records across hospital systems and states.

How sources are presented

Original documents and recordings are identified as primary sources. News coverage stays attributed to its publisher and reporter. Short descriptions help readers decide what to open; they do not replace the original record.

Case status includes an as-of date and supporting material. A filed allegation, a settlement, and a court finding are labeled according to what the record establishes. Professional profiles use publicly sourced roles and show dates where available.

What is searchable

Search covers the titles, descriptions, names, case details, and related records entered in the archive. The contents of PDF files and linked video transcripts are not yet indexed. Use a PDF viewer’s own search to look inside a document.

Documents, recordings, and access

Locally preserved PDFs offer both a viewer and a download link. External file links identify the host. News access labels describe the information available when an entry was checked; a publisher may change its access rules.

Recordings appear after their links and permission to share are confirmed. Caption and transcript links are shown when supplied.

Coverage and updates

This first archive includes a small selection of sourced historical records, rather than a comprehensive account of any system. The unpublished examples and unfinished recording entries in the working content sheet are excluded.

Event dates describe history. They should not be read as a statement about a hospital’s present-day operating status.

Accuracy and corrections

Source links stay close to their summaries so readers can check the underlying material. Dates and descriptions can be corrected as additional documents become available.
